I was extremely happy to have Irfan Pathan as my guest on the show along with my old pal Shilpa Shetty. What struck me most is that time has not made a dent on the evergreen Shilpa. She is remarkably well maintained and as effervescent as always. Irfan Pathan is casual and unassuming and it was a pleasure to interact with him. He did not wear any protective guards while answering personal questions such as his love interest and intention of marrying her soon. I believe that there is some resistance in his orthodox family because of religion. My father acted in a film called ‘Shershah Suri’. He told me that when Rani Karmavati of Chittorgarh was surrounded by enemies she asked her rakhi-brother, the Mughal emperor Humayun to defend her and he did so at the loss of his own kingdom. We have such a great heritage of love and brother-hood; I do not know how our times have been so polluted with inter-religion hatred.

Irfan displayed honesty and is so typical of our modern youth that they are casual yet straight-forward. Shilpa Shetty does not belong to this generation, yet she’s a very honest and down to earth girl too. I have known Shilpa and family for long. Her struggle has been long and now she has attained stardom due to her show being such a hit in London. Her good friend has gifted her a share in the Rajasthan Royals IPL team for which Irfan’s brother Yusuf plays. The Pathan brothers are amazing players.

My father Salim Khan and brother Arbaaz love cricket and are really passionate about it. They are friendly with a lot of international cricketers. As a matter of fact, my father played a lot of cricket in his college days and at one time even dreamed of making a career in cricket.
Dad played in Indore and the Holkar cricket team played gloriously for decades. India’s first captain Col. C.K. Naidu belonged to the Holkar team and Captain Mushtaq Ali played in the one-day game fashion long before this format was invented. My father is fortunate that he had the opportunity to watch Col. Naidu and Captain Mushtaq Ali in action. Once he caught a massive hit by Col. Naidu. But while watching Mushtaq Ali play, he realized that he could never play like that so he opted for another career. Arbaaz is familiar also with several county cricket players. He had flown to London to watch the T20 finals recently held in England.

Rains have been alluding Mumbai for a long time, 7th June onwards has been the period for monsoon to break in but this year’s extended, summer has been very tough, during this dry monsoon, it rained only through eyes of farmers. My brother Sohail Khan has made a film on problems of farmers. His “KISAN” is a dramatic entertainer with strong social message. The forces of bazaar want farmers to sell their land for industrialization. The entire conspiracy is so carefully hatched that brothers are divided so that they sell the land. Its new face of slavery. However rains lend mystique beauty to Mumbai. Sea rises to salute rain soaked Mumbai. Monsoon is added tourist attraction to the city.It would be an experience to drive on newly inaugurated sea link during rains. Marine Drive – the queen’s necklace becomes divinely beautiful during this season. The other side of monsoon is rather troublesome for the poor people whose homes are flooded. Daily wages earners go without food. Shoe shine boys go out of job.Memories of 26/7 are deeply itched in the psyche of Mumbai. This year they have predicted wave rising to dangerous height on 24th July 09. I am sure that the spirit of Mumbai rises above all calamities man made or created by nature. The long term solution to most of our problems is planting of trees in huge numbers.

I was talking to you guys the other day about how much I love dogs. All of a sudden my beloved dog, My jaan has taken ill. She is very unwell and is hospitalized for intensive treatment. Her hemoglobin has fallen to dangerous levels because of infections in the stomach. Lot of blood is lost. Everyday after the strenuous shooting of 10 ka Dum I go to the hospital and spend the night with my ailing jann. I go to my house only for a few hours in the morning to get ready for the shoot. It is breaking my heart to see her in pain. I am terribly upset with her illness. The only saving grace is that the biopsy report does not show any cancer. With this kind of emotional turmoil, I have to perform the jovial, singing and dancing anchor of the show. As I put on my makeup, I prepare myself for the performance. It’s tough but I have to take it in my stride as a professional test… of hiding what I feel at the moment. Television schedules are very tight I realize and one cannot take liberties. Had it been a film shoot I would have certainly cancelled it or delayed it till Myjaan is out of hospital.I wonder if religious fanatics think about or bother about the blood donors cast, creed, color and religion when they need life saving blood transfusion...When human beings are unwell, they believe in universal brotherhood but when they are fighting fit they suffer from all kinds of biases, prejudice and hatred. In this respect animals are better than human beings as they have no prejudices and religious bias. They are truly humane.I dislike it when we refer to animals to describe the stress of human life. We often say he’s leading a dog’s life. Most of our silly abuses include references to dog, donkey and other animals. Its human ignorance and hollow pride that we do not love and respect animals. Isn’t it?

By Salman Khan... in his blog.
It was pure unadulterated fun shooting with Mallika Sherawat and Vijendra – the boxing champion. They come from different fields but their fighting spirit serves as a common link. Mallika’s punches are almost as powerful as Vijendra’s ha ha ha. She’s gutsy, she is. Mallika came to Mumbai with no friends in the film industry and no godfather to push her career. She is a self made woman of substance. Although coming from a small town and a middle class background, she did not show any inhibitions and evolved a free style of performance. She used her body to emote well and win fans. Her modern approach to life and acting is really creditworthy. She has a tremendous courage of her convictions. I like her attitude. Her walk, her manner and body language proclaims just one thing ‘I care a damn for anybody’ she is a rebel in search of full freedom – freedom from formula, freedom from dogmas and orthodox lifestyles. Sexual freedom is a minor issue in craving for total freedom of speech and thought.
Vijendra and Mallika both are from Haryana. The Haryanavi dialect is so melodious and lovely. When you speak a simple sentence in Haryanavi, it sounds funny – happy funny and a little naughty. It has been a great joy shooting this episode with two very lively and gutsy people. Enjoy the show.

By Salman Khan... in his blog.
We were in Greece to shoot a song sequence for Bony Kapoor’s film “Wanted” directed by Prabhu Deva. I used to go for long walks every morning. Once on such a walk, I was pleasantly surprised to find a dog following me and as I walked some more dogs from neighboring localities joined.I have often observed in India that dogs from different streets are hostile to each other and do not approve of trespassing but this did not happen in Greece. And when I was coming back the dogs bid goodbye to each other and went their separate ways.I am a dog lover and sometimes I even treat them like human beings. I love dogs. They are very loyal and love you unconditionally. Have you ever noticed that when a dog lover visits a friend who also has dogs, the dogs smell you from a distance and do not hesitate to show their love. The dogs in Greece really baffled me. There was no rivalry among the dogs of different localities and streets. I wonder if cultural trends affect dogs of different nations…We Indians fight against each other. We have long history of wars fought by brothers. Family feuds have damaged clans. I know nothing about Greek history. It could be that certain breeds are friendly and some are ferocious. I only know that they love and express it in their own ways. Each dog is different and can never be replaced but the love and acceptance each new puppy teaches us is amazing….

I was quite impressed with Kabir, Kabir Khan the filmmaker. He met me much before he made ‘Kabul Express’. Now his second film ‘New York’ is ready for release and both Katrina and Neil Nitin Mukesh are so impressed with Kabir that they say he’s the real start of this unusual film.Katrina and Neil are my guests for an episode of 10 ka Dum and it proved to be great fun. During the entire shooting liquid energy flowed and all three of us were charged and motivated to entertain. The entire episodeyou will see is enigmatic and like a great composition sung by three of us. Neil even rendered a song of his grandfather Mukeshji from Jaagte Raho and confessed that he has been an ardent fan of Kishore Kumar. He comes from a great family of talented singers and yet had the courage to admit being a Kishore Kumar fan. I admire and respect such straight honesty. I like folks that speak their mind.Katrina had earlier appeared on the show for the first season and during this year she has gained such immense self confidence. She is essentially a very simple and sincere person and remains unaffected by the wicked, crooked ways of our world. She has inborn sensuality but does not flaunt it at all and carries herself very naturally...with dignity. I have been a close witness to her growth as a person and as an actor during last five years. Neil revealed that his father did not speak to him for six months when he opted to make his debut in a negative role but his performance in ‘Johnny Gadar’ pleased his father Nitinji a great deal. This entertaining episode reveals the emotional rapport shared by us. It’s fun all the way with no speed breakers. I performed for nearly five hours on the sets non stop and yet I was not drained of energy at the end of the show. When you do something you like, you do not feel tired. Energy sustains or drops depending on whether you like or dislike the work that you do….

10 ka Dum like all good work is the result of team work. The synergy team consists of lots of young hard working brilliant young girls superbly led by Roza, Babu’s wife and Manisha from Sony. My sister Alvira often visits our sets as she has designed my clothes for the show with her partner Ashley. There’s always good cheer while shooting and off camera, we often crack rather bold jokes, ribbing each other like long standing friends and the girls take in sportingly. The friendly atmosphere is such that there is no gender discrimination- girls are quite like boys and some boys are girlish in temperament.Sometimes I feel that we should also shoot our off camera activities. Its great fun and healthy bantering… It could be real cool stuff. Our team mate Preeti who handles the tele prompter is getting married soon and will settle in Belgium. She has trusted the judgment of her parents and agreed to marry even without meeting the bridegroom. Her contention is that even marriages after a long courtship also fail…I tease her that it’s a real ‘Blind Date’.Babu, Siddarth Basu is one cool guy. He is friendly and talkative yet makes a graceful exit whenever bold jokes are cracked…though he knows that everything is always within the limits of decency. It is perhaps these friendly pranks and jokes that help us survive long grinding hours and come up with a super show.I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I do shooting each episode…

Very often we have our films based on children with scripts revolving around childhood experiences. So, I was thrilled to have Darsheel Safary, Tanay Chheda and Azharuddin Mohammed as my contestants for one of the next episodes of 10 ka Dum. There was full on masti, laughter and dancing with three very special kids. They lit up the show with their inborn talent to entertain; they instinctively answered the questions; they sang, they danced with immense energy. While shooting with them, I realized that even though they had come from such different backgrounds; Darsheel from a well off, south Mumbai family and Azharuddin from a modest, simple family in the suburbs….But on 10 ka Dum their naturalness defied all differences of their status and backgrounds.Talent is a great equalizer and it drops its seeds without any discrimination. As a matter of fact most great comic talent has emerged from rather poor families. From the all time great Charlie Chaplin, Johnny Walker, Mehmood Uncle, Johnny Lever to Rajpal Yadav.Fame and money has not destroyed Darsheel’s naturalness. Tanay, is sincere and hardworking and Azharuddin is ultra-confident. I was heartened by this. It is also a fact that most successful artists indeed retain their childlike innocence in all stages of life. Fame and wealth are difficult to handle at any age and greedy parents rob innocence to make a fast buck. This disturbs me a great deal. They tend to overburden the children and it’s like the fabled hen that laid golden eggs... I wish and pray sincerely that it does not happen to these three child prodigies. Most parents nurture the Mozart dream. My heart bleeds for children who have been forced to work in hotels and other places to earn the daily bread for their family.Coming back to my champion guests for the episode, I am sure you all will really enjoy this episode with your families…with as much laughter in your homes as there was in the studios while shooting.

Now I observe that my nephews and nieces play with electronic toys and know a lot about computers and other gadgets. In our childhood, we played with traditional toys and most of our time was spent on playgrounds. Sohail’s son Nirvan and Arabaz’s son Arhaan and Alvira’s son Ayan play with gadgets like experts. Alvira’s daughter Alige is so confident that she almost matches grownups in number of things. The other day we were all chatting and having a great time. Nirvan and Ayan were taking photographs with their mobile phones. After an hour or so the kids edited the photos I such a way that it looked like a film! My father is rattled with these gadgets and he uses them only when his landline is not working. His grandchildren fix up his mobile, read messages for him.

Today kids are so techno savvy and have developed amazing skills. They have great exposure. They have travelled abroad. When I compare my childhood with theirs, I feel I was so simple and knew so little. When these kids grow up, the world will be a tougher and complicated place. All these skills they are developing in the childhood will be useful to them. I think machines and technology will dominate. Entertainment will be redefined. If anyone asks me if I would be happy to be a child in today’s time, my answer would be NO. I am happy with my childhood and have no desire to use time machine either to go in future or to travel backwards. I like time at its normal speed.

Diler Mehendi and his younger Brother Mika had worked wonders as a team until 1999 when they went separate ways. For the last 10 years various efforts were made to bring them together but we are privileged to bring about union of two brothers on our show 10 ka Dum. I think ours is a blessed one. In our last season two families patched up after prolonged bitterness caused by inter religious wedding.

Diler Mehendi is such a mature person that when Mika decided to go independent, he booked studio for him although he suffered a lot due to separation. The two brothers performed so well and were in complete sync inspite of long separation. Blood is thicker than water but traditions and talent are far more than either blood or water.

Diler used to drive taxi in USA but his passion for music provided happiness to millions of listeners all over the world and lifted his large family of near a dozen brothers and cousins from lower middle class.

I am extremely grateful to them for coming on 10 ka Dum. Folks be ready to receive Punjab in your own drawing rooms

By Salman Khan.....
It’s a pleasure doing the second season of 10 Ka Dum. Now the sets look slightly larger. Some of the team members have also been replaced. I do miss our old colleagues but the new youngsters have the same competence and spirit. Its like the slight change in the set, arches have been replaced and yet the impact is the same. Evergreen Siddarth Basu has made the change very smooth.

Karishma and Kareena Kapoor feature in the inaugural episode of season 2 and it has been pure joy working with the fabulous Kapoor sisters. I have worked with both of them in quite a lot of films: My brother Sohail’s latest film has Kareena with me – Mr. and Mrs. Khan. Both sisters have some similarities yet they are different individuals. Both have been punctual, sincere and hardworking but Kareena is not as vulnerable as Karishma has been probably because Karishma had to struggle a lot and she paved way for Kareena. Film industry has changed a lot and this can be observed between the two sisters. These days of fast changing world bring about a generation gap even if siblings are born within three years of each other whereas Karishma is 6 years older than Kareena. Remuneration of artists has undergone sea of change during the last couple of years. Karishma used to work hard on her roles and used to come to the sets with Kareena, who was almost like her understudy. While watching her elder sister Karishma, Kareena imbibed a lot. Both the sisters are full of life, energy and ambition.

The show revealed hidden heroes among commoners and also projected the commoner in me. Basically I am a simple straightforward man so for me it was a fun filled voyage of discovering each other. Last season ended on a note of happiness for all of us and a promise that we will repeat it with greater energy and friendlier spirit.

Mallika ka Dum with Salman

Mallika Sherawat, the sizzling hot sultry sexy siren of bollywood who is currently promoting her upcoming film Hisses, demanded a whopping Rs 50 lakh from Sony channel to appear on Salman Khan’s upcoming show Dus Ka Dum.
After the initial hiccup the channel decided to pay the amount to bollywood diva to she her on the show. Now, Mallika is all set to shoot for the show on May 24. But, Mallika Sherawat did not stop at that and told the channel that she would also be promoting her upcoming film ‘Hissss’ on the show by talking about it. This is the second season of the show which is being hosted by Salman Khan. In the Ist season though the channel had approached the buxom beauty to appear on the show but she had refused due to her strained relationship with Salman Khan.
The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Mallika Sherawat agreed to do the show this time only because her relationship with Salman Khan has improved considerably. Their enmity dates back to Rock Stars world tour in way back 2006, when they had some issue over money. However, now it seems that Mallika-Salman relations have taken a turn for better, especially after she was seen attending his birthday bash at Panvel farm house. the insiders say that the thawing of relationship had started when Mallika and Sallu met at an event and started talkingInsiders tell an interesting story regarding Mallika’s attendance of Salman Khan’s party. If they are to be believed, Mallika telephoned Salman and got herself invited to the party. Later, when they met at the party Mallika was seen gushing about Salman Khan’s great style of working and his movies.Mallika told Salman Khan that she was a very big fan of the actor and wanted to act with him someday in a film. Salman was mighty pleased with this pleasant turn of events and they bonded well with each other. It may be recalled that Mallika Sherawat was accompanied by her brother Vikram Singh at Salman Khan’s birthday bash. Vikram Singh is the producer of Malllika Sherawat’s upcoming flick ‘Hissss’, which is being directed by Hollywood biggie Jennifer Lynch. For her ambitious flick ‘Hissss’, Mallika Sherawat has appointed Endeavor Independent, which handled the worldwide sales of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, for handling worldwide sales for the film in Cannes. Earlier, Endeavor representatives had seen the film in Los Angeles and were impressed by it.

Salman Khan agrees to work with Shah Rukh

Bollywood star Salman Khan has agreed to work with his long time rival Shah Rukh Khan.
The star says, there won’t be any problem working with King Khan as he’s a good human being.
At the same time Salman ruled out any anonymity with the later. Before this, media reports said that Salman had vowed not to work with Shah Rukh. Not only this, Shah Rukh too, decided the same thing.
Salman, who was speaking to the journalists at a press conference of Dus Ka Dam, said “SRK is more than welcome if he agrees to come on the show.”“I do not have any problem with it. Even if I have, I cannot discuss with you,” the star added. Salman was asked will it be okay with him if the channel invites Shah Rukh Khan as a celebrity guest? But personally, Salman would prefer to have guests like Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Dharmendra, Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi on his show.

Karishma and Kareena to grace Dus Ka Dum!

Kareena Kapoor and her elder sister Karisma Kapoor will reportedly appear on the second season of Salman Khan’s television show ‘Dus Ka Dum’. Rumour has been abuzz that Salman Khan is not using his influence to rope in celebrities from the film industry for the game show this year because of his slashed remuneration. So, the onus has been solely on Sony television to approach the celebs and get them for the show. Until recently the channel had not been able to rope in any celebs even after approaching a number of them. A recent report said the channel had approached Sonam Kapoor , Anil Kapoor , Sanjay Dutt and wife, Ajay Devgan and Kajol , but none of the celebs were free to appear on the show.

But now, the Kapoor sisters are almost confirmed to be the special guests. Reports say the two sisters will show their ‘dum’ in the very first episode of the show this season, which is set to kick off on May 25, Monday. Sources say the Kapoor sisters are very fond of Salman. Kareena, who plays his love interest in Main Aur Mrs Khanna , is particularly eager to be on Salman’s show.

Season one of Dus Ka Dum proved to be an absolute hit with the remarkable anchor, Salman Khan. Although Salman hosted a game show for the first time, he definitely proved to be versatile once again. Salman possessed all the factors an incredible host should have. The actor was very welcoming, funny, witty, and very down-to-earth, which just made the game show worth your time. Celebrities such as Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Rakhi Sawant along with cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh graced the first season of Dus Ka Dum.

Salman's fans are eagerly waiting for the third season of Jhalak Dikhla Ja to finish as Dus Ka Dum's season two will start shortly after. Buzz has it that the first celebrity guests on this much awaited show will be none other than the Kapoor sisters, Lolo (Karishma) and Bebo (Kareena). Furthermore, rumours also had it that Salman had simply refused to have the sisters on the show. However, a close source revealed that the sisters will be on the show despite their commitments.

Season two does seem way more promising than season one. We can't wait to see Salman back on TV with the very entertaining show, Dus Ka Dum!

Salman takes his own trip

He’s back on the telly again as the host of Dus ka Dum. Only, this season, the show will air once a week instead of bi-weekly. The 14-week run can be extended if the TRPs are high. Salman Khan is confident the show will top the popularity charts again: “I knew as soon as I saw the first episode we shot at RK Studio last season that the show would work. It did and I’m back,” he smiles.
But unlike last season, this time, Salman won’t use his clout to rope in his celebrity friends.. not even his new muse, Claudia. Reference to the firang beauty makes him uncomfortable. “She’s a friend, she has come home, met my family, that’s it!” he says shortly.
On the subject of Katrina Kaif and marriage, too, he’s mum. All he says with a laugh is, “Main dab raha hoon,” obviously referring to pressures from the family to tie the knot.
What about Asin, London Dreams dream girl for whom he’s been house hunting and pup gifting? And Sonakshi, Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter, who refused to debut opposite him? And..? “Wait,” he orders. “You’re not going to get a reaction out of me by quizzing me about these ridiculous stories that only my family has the right to ask me about. I was a hot-blooded boy earlier and the slightest anger would get flashed. But now I’ve become a man, I’m more resilient and resistant,” he smiles. He’s out to change his image of a brash brat. He wants to be allowed to sip a cup of coffee with friends at a coffee shop, go riding in a rickshaw, stroll down the road or just live peacefully in the house he bought with his hard earned money without being answerable to anyone for anything. “If it wasn’t for my background, I would never have become an actor. But of course, if I wasn’t an actor, I couldn’t even have been a darwan in a five-star hotel.. they are taller and sturdier than I am,” he jokes.
And he wouldn’t have been asked to campaign for politician friends or got flak for not exercising his right to franchise? “I would have voted if I hadn’t been out of the country. I’m not a show off that I will fly 48 hours to get myself clicked outside the booth. I was shooting for a film in London. There were too many technical problems, I couldn’t just give up and leave my unit in a lurch,” he argues.
He adds that to ensure that everyone votes, incentives should be offered or a law be implemented. “We’re all law abiding citizens and we will all follow what the law says,” he says, then covers his mouth, as if he had said something he shouldn’t have.
Will he contest in future? Nope, he’d rather do social work than jump into politics. “I don’t need to contest the elections to serve my people,” he asserts.
We return to Dus ka Dum 2 and its first celebrity guests, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor. Salman confirms that they were brought in by the channel. Apparently, he threw a tantrum and refused to shoot when he learnt the identity of his guests. “Really? I was in London, so how could I throw a tantrum? I didn’t even know they were going to be my first guests,” he protests, adding with a naughty twinkle, “I’m sure the channel will deny these stories but who knows, they may be true.”
What if Shah Rukh Khan was invited? “He’s welcome. I don’t mind him or any other Khan coming on my show, if they don’t mind it,” he smiles. Last year, Salman’s Dus Ka Dum had a stiff competition from Shah Rukh’s Panchvi Paas. But, so far, there’s been no news of SRK’s show returning to the tube. He must be relieved? “Why should I be happy because someone’s show didn’t work as beautifully as mine?” he asks. “Of course, in this business, whatever works, returns. There’s no denying that.”
Apart from Shah Rukh, Salman’s guest wishlist includes Sunny Deol, Dharmendra, Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. “Sunny’s killer smile and Sanju’s chemistry with me will work wonders,” he prophesises, adding, “I have very few friends in this industry. Sunny and Sanju are among the few who are genuinely thrilled if I succeed.”
Buzz is that he’s getting a higher fee this season? Salman instantly goes into denial mode: “I have a tiny bank account now because I have cut down my fees drastically, following the economic slowdown.” He says that recession, the great leveler, has cut short undeserving price hikes. He quickly adds that saleable names can still hike their price and get it too. “But character artistes and actors who’re not commercially viable, hiking their remunerations isn’t fair because the production budget shoots up without the guarantee of returns,” he reasons.
The initial budget of Veer has multiplied by a few crores since it went on the sets. “The story is set in the 18th century and it takes big money to recreate the times,” he argues. “And it couldn’t be set in today’s times because there are no men like that in our society now.”
Besides Veer, Salman has three other releases this year, Wanted, Main aur Mrs Khanna and London Dreams. Isn’t that an overdose? “Half the year was wasted on the strike, so all the films will come together. But no one will be bored because they are all different kinds of movies,” he reasons.
As a producer, he thinks that the impasse with the multiplex owners can be resolved in 10 minutes, if they met across the table. “It’s gone on for two months because both parties are waiting for the weaker other to break. It’s an ego problem and so the multiplexes remain empty.”
Quiz him if he would ask for a share in the ticket sales, and Khan quips, “Main to popcorn aur pepsi bhi nahin chhodta. These items sell at exorbitant rates because of our movies. If there were no movies, who would pay Rs 150 for a tub of popcorn?”
Finally, will he be at the IIFA Awards? He says sarcastically, “I would loooove to be there, but I don’t think I can make it. No offence meant, but if they want you for a show, no matter how much they hate you, they will call you and say, ‘Daaaarling, come na, and it will be so cool if you dance too.’ Even if they may not be willing to shell out money for your act.”
Money mattersLast season, buzz was that Salman Khan’s fee for 15 weeks, two episodes per week, came up to approximately Rs 89 crore. That makes it roughly Rs 3 crore per episode.
This season, buzz is that the actor is charging Rs 60 crore for 14 weeks, one episode per week.
That makes it approximately Rs 4 crore per episode.
