By Salman Khan.....
It’s a pleasure doing the second season of 10 Ka Dum. Now the sets look slightly larger. Some of the team members have also been replaced. I do miss our old colleagues but the new youngsters have the same competence and spirit. Its like the slight change in the set, arches have been replaced and yet the impact is the same. Evergreen Siddarth Basu has made the change very smooth.

Karishma and Kareena Kapoor feature in the inaugural episode of season 2 and it has been pure joy working with the fabulous Kapoor sisters. I have worked with both of them in quite a lot of films: My brother Sohail’s latest film has Kareena with me – Mr. and Mrs. Khan. Both sisters have some similarities yet they are different individuals. Both have been punctual, sincere and hardworking but Kareena is not as vulnerable as Karishma has been probably because Karishma had to struggle a lot and she paved way for Kareena. Film industry has changed a lot and this can be observed between the two sisters. These days of fast changing world bring about a generation gap even if siblings are born within three years of each other whereas Karishma is 6 years older than Kareena. Remuneration of artists has undergone sea of change during the last couple of years. Karishma used to work hard on her roles and used to come to the sets with Kareena, who was almost like her understudy. While watching her elder sister Karishma, Kareena imbibed a lot. Both the sisters are full of life, energy and ambition.

The show revealed hidden heroes among commoners and also projected the commoner in me. Basically I am a simple straightforward man so for me it was a fun filled voyage of discovering each other. Last season ended on a note of happiness for all of us and a promise that we will repeat it with greater energy and friendlier spirit.

Mallika ka Dum with Salman

Mallika Sherawat, the sizzling hot sultry sexy siren of bollywood who is currently promoting her upcoming film Hisses, demanded a whopping Rs 50 lakh from Sony channel to appear on Salman Khan’s upcoming show Dus Ka Dum.
After the initial hiccup the channel decided to pay the amount to bollywood diva to she her on the show. Now, Mallika is all set to shoot for the show on May 24. But, Mallika Sherawat did not stop at that and told the channel that she would also be promoting her upcoming film ‘Hissss’ on the show by talking about it. This is the second season of the show which is being hosted by Salman Khan. In the Ist season though the channel had approached the buxom beauty to appear on the show but she had refused due to her strained relationship with Salman Khan.
The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Mallika Sherawat agreed to do the show this time only because her relationship with Salman Khan has improved considerably. Their enmity dates back to Rock Stars world tour in way back 2006, when they had some issue over money. However, now it seems that Mallika-Salman relations have taken a turn for better, especially after she was seen attending his birthday bash at Panvel farm house. the insiders say that the thawing of relationship had started when Mallika and Sallu met at an event and started talkingInsiders tell an interesting story regarding Mallika’s attendance of Salman Khan’s party. If they are to be believed, Mallika telephoned Salman and got herself invited to the party. Later, when they met at the party Mallika was seen gushing about Salman Khan’s great style of working and his movies.Mallika told Salman Khan that she was a very big fan of the actor and wanted to act with him someday in a film. Salman was mighty pleased with this pleasant turn of events and they bonded well with each other. It may be recalled that Mallika Sherawat was accompanied by her brother Vikram Singh at Salman Khan’s birthday bash. Vikram Singh is the producer of Malllika Sherawat’s upcoming flick ‘Hissss’, which is being directed by Hollywood biggie Jennifer Lynch. For her ambitious flick ‘Hissss’, Mallika Sherawat has appointed Endeavor Independent, which handled the worldwide sales of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, for handling worldwide sales for the film in Cannes. Earlier, Endeavor representatives had seen the film in Los Angeles and were impressed by it.

Karishma and Kareena to grace Dus Ka Dum!

Kareena Kapoor and her elder sister Karisma Kapoor will reportedly appear on the second season of Salman Khan’s television show ‘Dus Ka Dum’. Rumour has been abuzz that Salman Khan is not using his influence to rope in celebrities from the film industry for the game show this year because of his slashed remuneration. So, the onus has been solely on Sony television to approach the celebs and get them for the show. Until recently the channel had not been able to rope in any celebs even after approaching a number of them. A recent report said the channel had approached Sonam Kapoor , Anil Kapoor , Sanjay Dutt and wife, Ajay Devgan and Kajol , but none of the celebs were free to appear on the show.

But now, the Kapoor sisters are almost confirmed to be the special guests. Reports say the two sisters will show their ‘dum’ in the very first episode of the show this season, which is set to kick off on May 25, Monday. Sources say the Kapoor sisters are very fond of Salman. Kareena, who plays his love interest in Main Aur Mrs Khanna , is particularly eager to be on Salman’s show.

Season one of Dus Ka Dum proved to be an absolute hit with the remarkable anchor, Salman Khan. Although Salman hosted a game show for the first time, he definitely proved to be versatile once again. Salman possessed all the factors an incredible host should have. The actor was very welcoming, funny, witty, and very down-to-earth, which just made the game show worth your time. Celebrities such as Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Rakhi Sawant along with cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh graced the first season of Dus Ka Dum.

Salman's fans are eagerly waiting for the third season of Jhalak Dikhla Ja to finish as Dus Ka Dum's season two will start shortly after. Buzz has it that the first celebrity guests on this much awaited show will be none other than the Kapoor sisters, Lolo (Karishma) and Bebo (Kareena). Furthermore, rumours also had it that Salman had simply refused to have the sisters on the show. However, a close source revealed that the sisters will be on the show despite their commitments.

Season two does seem way more promising than season one. We can't wait to see Salman back on TV with the very entertaining show, Dus Ka Dum!

Salman takes his own trip

He’s back on the telly again as the host of Dus ka Dum. Only, this season, the show will air once a week instead of bi-weekly. The 14-week run can be extended if the TRPs are high. Salman Khan is confident the show will top the popularity charts again: “I knew as soon as I saw the first episode we shot at RK Studio last season that the show would work. It did and I’m back,” he smiles.
But unlike last season, this time, Salman won’t use his clout to rope in his celebrity friends.. not even his new muse, Claudia. Reference to the firang beauty makes him uncomfortable. “She’s a friend, she has come home, met my family, that’s it!” he says shortly.
On the subject of Katrina Kaif and marriage, too, he’s mum. All he says with a laugh is, “Main dab raha hoon,” obviously referring to pressures from the family to tie the knot.
What about Asin, London Dreams dream girl for whom he’s been house hunting and pup gifting? And Sonakshi, Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter, who refused to debut opposite him? And..? “Wait,” he orders. “You’re not going to get a reaction out of me by quizzing me about these ridiculous stories that only my family has the right to ask me about. I was a hot-blooded boy earlier and the slightest anger would get flashed. But now I’ve become a man, I’m more resilient and resistant,” he smiles. He’s out to change his image of a brash brat. He wants to be allowed to sip a cup of coffee with friends at a coffee shop, go riding in a rickshaw, stroll down the road or just live peacefully in the house he bought with his hard earned money without being answerable to anyone for anything. “If it wasn’t for my background, I would never have become an actor. But of course, if I wasn’t an actor, I couldn’t even have been a darwan in a five-star hotel.. they are taller and sturdier than I am,” he jokes.
And he wouldn’t have been asked to campaign for politician friends or got flak for not exercising his right to franchise? “I would have voted if I hadn’t been out of the country. I’m not a show off that I will fly 48 hours to get myself clicked outside the booth. I was shooting for a film in London. There were too many technical problems, I couldn’t just give up and leave my unit in a lurch,” he argues.
He adds that to ensure that everyone votes, incentives should be offered or a law be implemented. “We’re all law abiding citizens and we will all follow what the law says,” he says, then covers his mouth, as if he had said something he shouldn’t have.
Will he contest in future? Nope, he’d rather do social work than jump into politics. “I don’t need to contest the elections to serve my people,” he asserts.
We return to Dus ka Dum 2 and its first celebrity guests, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor. Salman confirms that they were brought in by the channel. Apparently, he threw a tantrum and refused to shoot when he learnt the identity of his guests. “Really? I was in London, so how could I throw a tantrum? I didn’t even know they were going to be my first guests,” he protests, adding with a naughty twinkle, “I’m sure the channel will deny these stories but who knows, they may be true.”
What if Shah Rukh Khan was invited? “He’s welcome. I don’t mind him or any other Khan coming on my show, if they don’t mind it,” he smiles. Last year, Salman’s Dus Ka Dum had a stiff competition from Shah Rukh’s Panchvi Paas. But, so far, there’s been no news of SRK’s show returning to the tube. He must be relieved? “Why should I be happy because someone’s show didn’t work as beautifully as mine?” he asks. “Of course, in this business, whatever works, returns. There’s no denying that.”
Apart from Shah Rukh, Salman’s guest wishlist includes Sunny Deol, Dharmendra, Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. “Sunny’s killer smile and Sanju’s chemistry with me will work wonders,” he prophesises, adding, “I have very few friends in this industry. Sunny and Sanju are among the few who are genuinely thrilled if I succeed.”
Buzz is that he’s getting a higher fee this season? Salman instantly goes into denial mode: “I have a tiny bank account now because I have cut down my fees drastically, following the economic slowdown.” He says that recession, the great leveler, has cut short undeserving price hikes. He quickly adds that saleable names can still hike their price and get it too. “But character artistes and actors who’re not commercially viable, hiking their remunerations isn’t fair because the production budget shoots up without the guarantee of returns,” he reasons.
The initial budget of Veer has multiplied by a few crores since it went on the sets. “The story is set in the 18th century and it takes big money to recreate the times,” he argues. “And it couldn’t be set in today’s times because there are no men like that in our society now.”
Besides Veer, Salman has three other releases this year, Wanted, Main aur Mrs Khanna and London Dreams. Isn’t that an overdose? “Half the year was wasted on the strike, so all the films will come together. But no one will be bored because they are all different kinds of movies,” he reasons.
As a producer, he thinks that the impasse with the multiplex owners can be resolved in 10 minutes, if they met across the table. “It’s gone on for two months because both parties are waiting for the weaker other to break. It’s an ego problem and so the multiplexes remain empty.”
Quiz him if he would ask for a share in the ticket sales, and Khan quips, “Main to popcorn aur pepsi bhi nahin chhodta. These items sell at exorbitant rates because of our movies. If there were no movies, who would pay Rs 150 for a tub of popcorn?”
Finally, will he be at the IIFA Awards? He says sarcastically, “I would loooove to be there, but I don’t think I can make it. No offence meant, but if they want you for a show, no matter how much they hate you, they will call you and say, ‘Daaaarling, come na, and it will be so cool if you dance too.’ Even if they may not be willing to shell out money for your act.”
Money mattersLast season, buzz was that Salman Khan’s fee for 15 weeks, two episodes per week, came up to approximately Rs 89 crore. That makes it roughly Rs 3 crore per episode.
This season, buzz is that the actor is charging Rs 60 crore for 14 weeks, one episode per week.
That makes it approximately Rs 4 crore per episode.
